Kineya Mugimaru

If you’re navigating the bustling energy of St Pancras Station and craving something warm, authentic, and deeply satisfying, Kineya Mugimaru might just be your best-kept secret. Tucked away at Unit 27B in The Circle, this Japanese noodle haven brings the comforting slurp of udon to London commuters, solo diners, and casual foodies alike.

Now, let’s talk first impressions. The vibe is casual, quick-service, yet welcoming-with wheelchair-accessible entrances and seating for added inclusivity. Whether you're looking for a solo bite between meetings or grabbing takeaway before a train ride, the restaurant is designed to make your visit smooth and efficient. Bonus points for offering delivery and dine-in as well.

But the heart of Kineya Mugimaru isn’t just its convenient location-it’s the menu, packed with flavour-forward Japanese staples. The Tonkotsu Pork Udon steals the show. The pork broth is rich, collagen-heavy, and beautifully balanced with umami. Paired with thick, chewy udon noodles, it’s the kind of bowl that stops conversation. If you lean more plant-based, the Kitsune Udon is a go-to-light yet savoury, with sweetened tofu skin that adds a unique depth to the dish.

For those after a bit of crunch, there’s a tempting lineup of tempura options. The Pumpkin Katsu and Asparagus Tempura are unexpected standouts. Golden, crisp, and never greasy-these sides perfectly contrast the soft textures of the noodles. Pair that with a refreshing Mango Bubble Tea, and you’ve got yourself a well-balanced meal that plays with texture and temperature in all the right ways.

Now if you’re the kind of person who enjoys exploring beyond udon, Kineya Mugimaru won’t disappoint. Their Tonkotsu Ramen offers a robust alternative with thinner noodles and more concentrated broth. Meanwhile, the Bibimbap-though Korean in origin-brings a vibrant, veggie-loaded rice bowl with that iconic crispy bottom layer when served hot. And if you’ve never tried Tuna Spicy Miso Onigiri, this is your chance. It’s the perfect handheld bite-savory, spicy, and utterly satisfying.

One thing that sets Kineya Mugimaru apart is the sheer variety of offerings despite the compact setup. From Zaru Udon for cold noodle fans to hearty Chicken Rice Sandwiches and Beef Inari, the kitchen knows how to cater to every kind of palate and appetite. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite or a filling dinner, there’s a sense of customization here that’s rare in fast-casual Japanese joints.

And let’s not forget the little luxuries-they serve alcohol and wine for those wanting a more relaxed evening meal. You’ll also find healthy options, vegan dishes, and vegetarian plates clearly labeled. It’s not just about traditional fare-it’s about making those dishes accessible and enjoyable to everyone, regardless of dietary needs.

What I particularly love is how the small plate format lets you try a bit of everything without overcommitting. Grab a bowl of Tempura Udon Soup, add a Panko Fried Chicken Yaki Udon, throw in a Tariyaki Chicken Rice side, and you’re set for a feast that doesn’t break the bank or leave you feeling sluggish.

The ambiance inside the restaurant reflects its Japanese roots-functional, minimalist, and fast-paced, but never cold. Even during busy lunch hours, staff remain efficient and friendly, helping first-timers navigate the menu. Plus, everything comes out piping hot and freshly prepared, which isn’t something you can always say about station dining.

In a city filled with noodle bars, Kineya Mugimaru stands out by blending convenience, authenticity, and variety in equal measure. Whether you’re new to udon or a seasoned ramen fanatic, it’s one of those spots that surprises you in the best possible way-right when you need it most, in the heart of London’s transit hub.

Chewy noodles, super tasty broth, the pork was delicious. Service was quick after placing the order using the tablet. The staff were helpful and friendly. There are lots options to takeaway too - they look dangerously delicious. Would recommend!

We visited this spot with a fairly large group and, while seating was a bit of a challenge with many luggage’s, the friendly staff did their best to accommodate us—we ended up sitting at the bar, which worked out just fine. The udon noodles stood out—fresh, well-cooked, and satisfying. The soup base was flavorful and comforting, clearly made with care. One dish that didn’t quite hit the mark for me was the chicken udon—it leaned too sweet for my taste, though others might enjoy that flavor profile. Still, given the quality of the food overall and the affordability, it’s a solid option if you’re craving Japanese comfort food. Friendly service, good value, and tasty noodles make it worth a visit—just be mindful if you're coming with a big group during peak hours with many luggage, can be quite messy.
